Hurdle H. "Trip" Lea III, having lived in the Caribbean for almost three decades, has more than forty years of experience in capital markets in Central and South America and the Caribbean.
He began his career as a runner on the New York Cotton Exchange in the late 1970's and was elected to full membership as a floor trader in 1980; at the time, he was the youngest member to have been awarded full membership in the exchange. In the mid-1980s, Trip joined W. Thorpe McKenzie, co-founder of Tiger Management, as a trading assistant. From its founding in 1990 through 1996, he served as the Chief Financial Officer of one of the first hedge fund-of-funds, Pointer, LP, which is today a $2.4 billion hedge fund-of-funds.
From 1996 through 2004, he was a General Partner and Executive Vice President of Globalvest, a $1.8 billion St. Thomas-based Latin American private equity and hedge fund group. Trip has served for many years on the boards of companies and not-for-profit entities in the Americas including six years as the Treasurer of the International School of Curaçao. Immediately prior to the founding of NuCapital, Trip was the President and CEO of a multi-strategy principal and asset management firm, Margate Management, LP located in St. Thomas. He has served as a Board Member, Officer, and Director of the Galapagos Conservancy since 2019. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Management and minors in Finance and Meteorology from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and has resided in Willemstad Curaçao since 2008.
