Managing Director & Board Member Hurdle H. “Trip” Lea has more than thirty years of experience in capital markets in Central and South America and the Caribbean.
He began his career as a floor trader on the New York Cotton Exchange in the late 1970's and was elected to full membership in 1980; at the time, he was the youngest member to have been awarded full membership in the exchange. In the mid-1980s, Trip joined W. Thorpe McKenzie, co-founder of Tiger Management, as a trading assistant. From its founding in 1990 through 1996, he served as the Chief Financial Officer of Pointer, LP, which is today a $3.2 billion hedge fund-of-funds.
For six years, he was Executive Vice President of Globalvest, a $1.8 billion St. Thomas-based Latin American private equity and hedge fund group. Trip has served for many years on the boards of a number of companies and not-for-profit entities in the Americas. From 2001 to 2008, Trip was the President and CEO of a multi-strategy principal and asset management firm, Margate Management, LP located in St. Thomas. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Management and a minor in Meteorology from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and has resided in Willemstad Curaçao since 2008.
